JAANTE

The founder

A vision shaped by three worlds.

Julie Atenda is the founder of JAANTE, an international editorial ecosystem connecting brands, creativity, culture and professional opportunities across Europe and Africa.

Her perspective has been shaped by different cultures, markets and creative environments — and by a conviction that exceptional ideas deserve more than visibility.

They deserve context.

Before JAANTE was an ecosystem, it was a perspective.

JAANTE did not begin with the idea of building another digital platform. It began with years of observing how brands are presented, how businesses grow and how creative talent is discovered.

Julie Atenda's professional journey has crossed luxury, premium brands, digital transformation, marketing, entrepreneurship and international business.

Across these environments, one observation continued to return: too many exceptional brands were being reduced to products. Their stories disappeared behind catalogues. Their craftsmanship behind pricing. Their cultural identity behind trends. Their ambition behind the pressure to simply be visible.

JAANTE was created as a response to that problem. Not to create more noise, but to create better context.

Three cities

Three cities shaped the way she sees the world.

Zurich — Where JAANTE began.

01

Zurich

Where JAANTE began.

JAANTE was founded in Zurich in 2014. The city represents discipline, precision, quality, reliability and an appreciation for things built properly rather than quickly. Those values became part of the House's foundations and opened an international journey beyond Switzerland.

Brussels — Where Europe meets the world.

02

Brussels

Where Europe meets the world.

Brussels became JAANTE's home: a city where cultures, languages, institutions, entrepreneurs and creative communities meet every day. For Julie, it represents openness, dialogue and the possibility of connecting people who may otherwise never meet.

Kinshasa — Where heritage becomes perspective.

03

Kinshasa

Where heritage becomes perspective.

Julie Atenda is of Congolese origin. Africa was never added because it became fashionable; it was always part of the story. Together with Brazzaville, Kinshasa has shaped an extraordinary culture of elegance through La Sape, while its designers, artists and entrepreneurs continue to influence contemporary African culture. JAANTE approaches these creative capitals with the same curiosity and seriousness long afforded to Paris and Milan.

What if discovery came before commerce?

What if a buyer could understand a brand before seeing its products?

What if craftsmanship could be experienced through a story?

What if culture could become context rather than decoration?

What if professional relationships could begin with curiosity rather than a sales pitch?

These questions became the foundation of JAANTE. The answer was not another catalogue. It was an ecosystem.

Building more than a marketplace.

The ambition was never to create the largest marketplace, but a more meaningful environment: a place where brands could be discovered, buyers could explore, stories could travel, expertise could be shared and business could happen naturally.

Her belief about brands

A brand is never only what it sells.

A brand carries memories, culture, choices, people, materials, ambition, failures, knowledge, craftsmanship and a point of view. Its origins, philosophy and relationship with materials matter. Only then can a buyer understand what makes it different.

Her belief about luxury

Luxury is not excess.

For Julie, luxury is attention: to material, maker, proportion, detail, time and people. The most luxurious things are often not the loudest. They have been considered carefully, made properly and given enough time to acquire meaning.

JAANTE Africa

Africa deserves to be seen beyond the stereotype.

African creativity should not have to be explained through clichés. Africa is not one aesthetic, one culture, one story, one colour palette or a trend. It is a continent of extraordinary diversity.

Its creativity lives in fashion, architecture, design, beauty, art, hospitality, technology, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship, food, music, publishing and countless other fields.

JAANTE's role is not to define Africa. It is to create space for its many voices to be discovered on their own terms.

Some things are not negotiable.

  • A volume-driven marketplace
  • A catalogue without context
  • Media chasing clicks
  • A collection of trends
  • A superficial representation of Africa
  • A pay-to-play editorial environment
  • Technology disguised as culture
  • A platform where quantity determines value

JAANTE must remain selective. Thoughtful. Independent. Human. Editorial.

A place where different worlds can meet.

A designer in Kinshasa discovered by a concept store in Paris. A Belgian brand meeting a buyer in Dubai. An architect finding a new material. A hotel group discovering an exceptional African maker. A founder learning from another founder. A story becoming a relationship, and a relationship becoming an opportunity. JAANTE is being built around these possibilities.

A note from Julie

I did not want to build another platform.

I wanted to build a place where people could slow down enough to discover.

Where a brand could be more than a logo. Where a collection could be more than a product grid. Where culture could be understood rather than packaged.

Where African creativity could stand alongside international creativity without being exoticised. Where European and African perspectives could meet naturally.

And where business relationships could begin with something increasingly rare: genuine curiosity.

JAANTE is still evolving. But that conviction has never changed.

The ecosystem today

What began as a vision continues to grow.

The story is still being written.

JAANTE is not finished. It is being built carefully — one relationship, one brand, one story, one conversation at a time.

The ambition is international. The perspective is multicultural. The standards remain high.

Exceptional brands deserve more than visibility. They deserve context.
