Santa Croce sull'Arno — the vegetable-tanned road

Every Rossano hide travels first through Santa Croce sull'Arno, the Tuscan town whose tanneries have supplied Italian luxury for eight centuries. The vegetable-tanning consortium there uses chestnut, mimosa and quebracho extracts rather than chrome — a slower process (up to sixty days in wooden pits) that yields leather with a living patina and full biodegradability. Rossano's box-calf and suede uppers are aged another three months in the atelier before cutting begins.
